Indian Arm North Vancouver seals

seals on logs bermudabetsy seals 2.jpgI love to kayaking up the Indian Arm. My favorite time to go paddling is 1st thing in the morning when the water is calm as glass & the residents are foraging for their breakfast. It was most interesting for me as this summer I also kayaked up in Seachelt. The seal, otter, & eagle life unfolding around me on The Indian Arm I took as normal waters edge activity. I was surprised in Seachelt @ a marked absence of mammals when I paddled.. I did see a fish farm but really no otters scurrying around on the water's edge nor seals spouting a greeting to me when they surfaced & following me when I paddled along. It made me feel a bit lonely as I am so used to the Indian Arm mammals accompanying me on my water adventures. What I wondered could be the difference? The conclusion I made was that in Seachelt there was  not enough food to support the wildlife that The Indian Arm supports. Made me appreciate even more these curious sleek wild Indian Arm mammals.  We are fortunate indeed to have this abundance of wildlife on our doorstep.
Here is a picture of a few seals basking in the sun on The Arm after a big salmon breakfast
