blog workshop w Claire Robson

I have convinced Claire Robson to give a workshop on blogging.Hurrah!!!!!! It will be held on May 25 & will be a 1 day workshop. Claire is a very inspiring humerous woman who is a writer & workshop leader. The last 2 writing workshops that I heard of that Claire offered were on the Sunshine Coast & were offered @ times that did not work for me. So we now have her in West Vancouver for this 1 day workshop. I will supply the coffee & lunch & the workshop is available to the 1st 13 people to sign up. Come out & join us for a day of learning how to establish your voice in the web world. I am so excited about this. Claire will make it fun, we will meet new people & learn lots.

Here is what Claire writes......IN MY OPINION: a blogging workshop with Claire Robson

According to Technorati (a search engine for blogs), a new blog is created every second of every day and the ‘blogosphere’ doubles in size every five months. Sabeer Bhatia (the owner of BlogEverywhere.com) predicts that "everybody will have a blog in five years."

In this one day workshop, participants will view a range of blogs that serve all kinds of purposes, including personal, promotional, and interactive social networking. We’ll consider, in addition, some examples of well-written, meaningful, and interesting blogs and attempt to define the qualities that set them apart from mundane chatter. Though this is not a technology-orientated workshop, we will take a quick look at a couple of popular free blog sites, and walk through the steps of signing up for an account. Finally, we’ll do a little experimental, ‘off-line’, writing, calculated to develop the kind of voice and style we’re looking for in our personal or professional blog.

No previous experience necessary. Laptops useful, but not essential.

Writer Claire Robson used blogs as a way to stay in touch with friends and family after moving from the US to Canada and as a means of promoting her award winning memoir, Love in Good Time during her book tour. She is editor of Outside Rules, an anthology of short fiction, a freelance book reviewer and journalist, host artist for Quirk-e (the queer imaging & riting collective for elders), Xtra West Writer of the Year for 2007, and currently researching the impact of reading and writing practices upon personal identities.
