Whistler - Turning Down into UP

Traditionally après summer and pre-ski time in Whistler was very much off season and a down time in visitors. That was before Whistler started the Cornucopia Event -a veritable feast of culinary delights paired with fabulous wines. This year’s event from November 9-12, started on Thursday with wine tastings from 74 wine exhibitors mainly from BC and Washington State.

Here is a list of my favorites from this afternoon tasting:

 Whites:

  • Fork in the Road Chardonnay 2004
  • Quails Gate Chenin Blanc
  • French Rabbit Chardonnay – great hip packaging when a bottle is too combersome
  • Sumac Ridge Meritage 2005

Reds:

  • Black Sage Vineyard Meritage 2003
  • TinHorn Creek Cabernet Franc 2003
  • Kendall Jackson Grand Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2003
  • Chateau de Beaucastel Coudelet de Beaucastel Rouge 2001
  • Sumac Ridge Silver 25th Anniversary "Pipe"
  • Saturna Island Vineyards Pinot Noir 2004 - for info on the Saturna Island Winery Harvest Celebration September 15, 2007 just $25 a person. This is a real fun day of wine tasting and grape stomping.

A real surprise and show stopper was Momokawa "g" "Cask Strength" Junmai Ginjo Genshu Premium Chilled Sake which has won Gold and Silver medals!

Definitely an UP-time for Whistler as most events were SOLD OUT!
