Whistler Cornucopia '07 - Day 2

On Saturday, I attended a private residence lunch. This year we went to a beautiful home in Nordic. It was catered by the Pacific Culinary Institute cooking school on Granville Island in Vancouver www.picachef.com. The luncheon was called the Green Table Experience. Its theme was sustainability and organic food and wine. Presenters were Chef Julian Bond, Andre LaRiviere; The Green Table Network and Summerhill Pyramid Winery.

Summerhill Pyramid Winery is Canada’s most visited winery and largest certified organic vineyard. It is represented by Renanaissance Wine Merchants Ltd in Burnaby www.renwine.com

My favorite dish was the seared albacore tuna, togarashi spice, wakame ocean greens paired with 2006 Platinum Series Gewurztraminer. The Gewurztraminer was a perfect pairing for this Japaneese dish. It is a very slight off dry to balance out a crisp acidity, with an intense floral nose. Light medium body and a long crisp finish with hints of pineapple, gala apples, orange zest and sweet spice. ($28.95 a bottle)

It was a luncheon aimed at reducing your carbon footprint - but not necessarily your waistline AND was for me a perfect way to spend my birthday afternoon sipping wine eating great food and meeting interesting new people
